HL7 delivers healthcare interoperability standards

HL7 Version 2 Training

A 2 day training course providing an overview of the HL7 Version 2 standard with a focus on understanding it from an implementation perspective. The NHS Interoperability Toolkit (ITK) is based upon HL7 Version 2 and Version 3 which are already widely used within the NHS.

HL7 version 2 is the main interoperability standard used to support workflows within a hospital setting - it is used throughout the NHS. Knowledge of HL7 version 2 is effectively a requirement for all those interested in achieving systems interoperability within a trust.

The focus of the ITK is largely on interoperability between organizations, where HL7 Version 2 plays a less prominent role, and where other standards such as HL7 version 3 and CDA are used. Knowledge of HL7 version 2 is a prerequisite for the ITK training course (see companion course details) - knowledge which one may have gained in the form of 'hands on experience' or by attending the HL7 version 2 training course.
