Interoperability Toolkit (ITK) Training

The Interoperability Toolkit (ITK) describes how one can leverage HL7/IHE standards, and Spine Mini Services, to provide local interoperability. This training course focuses on the two workflow-areas detailed in the ITK: patient demographics and correspondence. It also covers the infrastructure that is used to exchange the messages or documents that are part of these two workflow-areas.

Who should attend?

This training course is aimed at NHS users/trusts and vendors, i.e. those that need to implement ITK, and/or those that intend to bid as a response to the NHS calls for project funding.

Goals of the training course

Upon completion of this training course, attendees will be able to:

• Understand the key components of the ITK.
• Use the documentation to locate relevant content, and be able locate the associated NHS e-learning materials.
• Create a bid in response to the NHS's calls for project funding.
• Prepare for the implementation of the ITK.

Prerequisites

• The attendees are assumed to have a working knowledge of HL7 version 2 (see companion course details). 
• Attendees must bring a laptop.
• All attendees must download the ITK prior to the course onto their laptop. You are referred to TRUD for details. 
• Knowledge of HL7 version 3 (and CDA) is not required, this training course will briefly cover the core elements of the HL7 version 3 standard.

Course Materials: Each participant will be provided with handouts containing all materials covered in the training as well as other support materials.

Course Tutor

• René Spronk, HL7/IHE/DICOM Trainer, Ringholm.
• René has been providing both HL7 version 2 as well as HL7 version 3 training all around Europe since 2001. He has first hand experience in implementing HL7 version 2 as well as HL7 version 3 interfaces.
• Other tutors may be present should the number of trainees be larger than 20.
