HL7 UK Grants for attendance at HL7 meetings outside the UK

HL7 UK has a fund available to assist members attending HL7 activities outside the UK in meeting out of pocket expenses, primarily travel and hotel expenses. There is no provision for compensating for loss of earnings or any provision for paying members for attending. This fund is approved each year by the HL7 UK Board and managed by a Grant Subcommittee appointed by the HL7 UK Board.

The HL7 UK funding (which comes out of membership dues) is intended to cover support for those traveling to progress developments that are of benefit to the wider HL7 UK membership such as conference planning, UK realm standards development, progression of HL7 UK supported technical and organisational change proposals, etc).

Current members of the subcommittee are:

  • Chair: Philip Scott

  • Rik Smithies

  • Hugh Glover

Members seeking assistance to attend HL7 meetings should apply in writing or by email to any of the Subcommittee members at least two months before the meeting date. They should submit detailed estimates for flights and hotels, and a maximum budget being requested. If the application is approved, then the member will be notified the amount of support that is available within two weeks of their application and the approval of the grant published on the HL7 UK website (omitting details of amount granted). There is no limit on the number of applications. The decision of the Grant Subcommittee in approving the grant is final. Payment of travel awards will be made against submission of receipts for expenses as described in the request, which should be submitted to the secretariat within 45 days of the date of the expense being incurred.
