Tuesday 9 December 2008
Changing pressures and focus in the UK have meant that HL7 has not had a TC meeting for some time. The session on December 9th will look at some of the things that are changing.
Paul Richardson will provide a review of the CfH pathology project. Internationally the laboratory model has been one of the earliest standards to be agreed and established as a standard and HL7 UK published a UK specialisation over a year ago. CfH in one of the few new areas of development is now picking up that model and extending message coverage into pathology for the England generally.
While standards suggest permanence the reality is that they evolve. Managing the information about the version of a standard that you conform too is a tricky area and Charlie McCay will look at suggested mechanisms for managing this and managing the evolution of the CfH MiM over time.
At HL7 internationally there are several linked changes in the way that the v3 Rim is viewed. At the last working group meeting in Vancouver plans were proposed for a significant shift and expansion in the scope of v3. Instead of being limited to representing a message being transmitted between parties some people are using the Rim as a base design for their entire schema. In a separate move the use HL7 Architectural Review Board are proposing the use of Service Oriented Architecture as an underlying paradigm for representing the behaviour of messaging systems and indeed for for database applications. This will be a huge shift in the way in which HL7 v3 can be used and deserves careful analysis. Charlie Mead and others will provide a review
